CEEYS

CEEYS are brothers cellist Sebastian Selke and pianist Daniel Selke.

Having grown up in East Berlin during the final decade of the German Democratic Republic, CEEYS work explores recollections of their youth, contemporary music and vintage electronic instruments. Exploiting their knowledge of songwriting, textures and repetitive patterns, CEEYS creates an experimental but accessible sound that incorporates elements of jazz, pop, ambient and classical chamber music. This is combined by their early influence of Bach, Beethoven and Debussy and their passion for almost-forgotten compositions of East German based acts like Reinhard Lakomy, Wolfgang Paulke and Frank Fehse.

Having collaborated with some of Berlin and Germany’s finest composers and musicians (Ólafur Arnalds, Carlos Cipa and Martyn Heyne) the brothers were inspired to set up the Q3Ambientfest, a festival for experimental modern classical music. Launched in 2017 the festival is a collaboration with CEEYS and the Dutch event label F/uister.
